Badminton in the evenings! A friendly game with a side of competition. Winter season is for over 35's only but Summer season is open to all ages.

Our programme

Juniors

Players aged of 18 and younger are juniors. Waikato badminton currently has three junior squads. Get in touch with Joe to find out which squad would be best for you/your children.

Seniors

Players aged older than 18 are senior players. Waikato badminton currently has one senior squad, though has more people what to get involved we will expand into two squads. Get in touch with Joe to join.

Masters, Vets & Super Vets

Masters, Veterans, Super Vets program is aimed at players over 35 years old motivated to represent and compete for Waikato at regional and national events. Being part of these Representative teams can also be fun, inspiring and motivating as you are immersed in the game with like-minded players. These events will give you an opportunity to play against some of the best players in New Zealand. Trials for Representative Teams typically occur in February of each year.

Waikato Badminton currently has one Masters Division teams, two Vets teams and one Super Vets team in the Badminton New Zealand Inter-Association competition. All nominating players are required to attend trials, unless permission has been granted by the selectors.

The Masters, Vets & Super Vets representative practice sessions are held on Sunday evenings from 6.00pm – 8.00pm at the Eastlink Badminton Stadium. These sessions start after trials are held and teams are announced.

Age Bands: Masters 35 • Vets 50 • Super Vets 60 (by 31 Dec of current year)
Private Coaching

For those looking to improve their skills there are private and / or small groups coaching available. Below is a list of WBA Approved Coaches currently available. Sessions can range from $60-$90 per hour, so if you are interested in more information or to book a session please contact the individual coach directly to discuss their availability and rates.

How To Play
Option 1: Join a Club

Join one of the many affiliated / supported Clubs in the Waikato region. Save the hassle of hiring your own courts! There is a club to suit every age, ability and background including those that have never played before. Clubs will accept both casual players and those that wish to become a member. Please enquire with the Club contacts directly to find out where and what days / times of the week their sessions are held.

Option 2: Casual Play & Stadium Account

Badminton courts can be hired at various multi-purpose indoor facilities across the Waikato. Waikato Badminton Association manages a purpose-built facility in Hamilton East named the Eastlink Badminton Stadium. Casual players are welcome to Drop-In during staffed office hours. Drop-In rate includes free use of rackets and shuttles so no need to spend any money on buying equipment (available during staffed office hours only). Alternatively, get a personal stadium account and enjoy usage any time between 5 am to midnight, 7 days per week, 365 days per year to this 10 court facility. There are no ongoing membership charges besides the low annual membership fee as we operate on a “pay to play” basis.

Option 3: Trainings

Join our trainings to improve your badminton and play with people of the same ability in a fun environment, see below for more options.

Senior 1:  Anyone older than 18 can sign up, it is a group session aimed at people who are looking to improve their badminton.

Junior 3:  For anyone under 18, this beginner group session will help improve and teach you the fundamentals of badminton.
