The Waikato Climbing Club is run by a dedicated committee of volunteers and aims to support sport climbers and raise the profile of sport climbing in the Waikato region. We are affiliated with Climbing New Zealand which allows us to support climbers who want to compete at both a National and International level. There are opportunities for extra training for our competitive climbers. The Club runs indoor climbing competitions at a junior, regional and secondary level. We also organise club trips to other indoor facilities, outdoors sites and other exciting activities (not always climbing centered). Waikato Climbing Club also provides adaptive climber training. Our primary site is at Extreme Edge Indoor Climbing (Hamilton) where we regularly climb together. We are also happy to work with climbers new to the sport looking to climb socially. The Club aims to provide a supportive, friendly environment for climbers.
Club Nights
Club nights are held every Friday from 6 - 8 pm.
These are at Extreme Edge every Friday of the month, except for the third Friday of the month, which is at BoulderCo. Club nights are a mixture of informal hangouts and organised fun activities. Coming to a club night is a great chance to meet some of the members before signing up to join. Members are generally in Waikato Climbing Club T-shirts so you can find us, so come and introduce yourself and we'll make sure you are included. Note that entry, and any gear hire, will be charged by the climbing gym.
Gear Hire
Club helmets and crash mats can be borrowed by club members. Helmets are available in child and adult sizes. Hireage is $5 per helmet and $10 per crash mat per day. These items are stored at Extreme Edge. Please arrange hireage with a committee member in advance.
Please note the club does not run climbing lessons. Please contact Extreme Edge Hamilton or Boulder Co Hamilton directly for lessons.
